simplify

During the past week, it has been a crazy ride of finals, moving, auditioning and drumline.. I think the way I made it through the week was having these moments at cafes - simple moments. Moments that make me remember how simple life is.

And I like quotes, so here's one for you:
"Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated." - Confucius

for the first time in forever

for the first time in FOREVER I went jogging today. At first it was hard physically and also discouraging because the clouds were covering the sunset, but as the time progressed, I grew used to the pattern of jogging and the sunset made its way through!

It's really nice to re-start something. People say that there's no restart button in life, but there's always second, third and hundredth chances. You kind of just have to take the initiative and give it another go!

"With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts." - Eleanor Roosevelt

empty room

My family is planning to move very soon - this might be the last blog that I write in my room! (*gasp*) Well because we are moving, I have been slowly packing my belongings. When I first started, I packed a whole box with much effort, only to find that I didn't pack very much and my room didn't look any more empty. As I continued packing, I realized how much stuff I had. I found myself throwing away things I had no use for, many of which I had spent a lot of money buying, thinking that I "needed" it. It's kind of crazy to think how much stuff we have.. and how we always want more and more. I realized that maybe I need to live a more simple life - possessing less and being satisfied with it. After all, life is a gift itself. Why make it more complicated? Why not just enjoy what we have?.. hmmm.

I didn't know I could learn a life lesson from trying to make an empty room..

^ bye bye until next time!

alstroemeria: the friendship flower

This flower is the representation of friendship, similar to how roses are the flower which symbolizes love. I watched this Jubilee Project Fellowship Short Film, entitled Alstroemeria. I was reminded upon the importance of friendship. It reminded me how even one friendship can be so valuable and sometimes is the thing that keeps us sane. Last week I met up with a couple of friends whom I haven't seen in a couple of months. It was so enjoyable in their company and reassuring that they are looking out for me, even if I don't see them all the time. I think friendships, like flowers, can be beautiful and bring joy, but are also very delicate and can die without proper care. Sometimes I take for granted the friendships I have with other people. I think I have to make sure I'm not stepping on the flowers around me, but appreciate and nurture the valuable friendships that I have.

the happy jar

In the beginning of the 2013, I made a "Happy Jar", inspired by a tumblr post that I read. This is the original text:
"take an empty jar and put it in your room. Every time something good happens to you - it doesn't matter if it's just a little thing. If it makes you happy - write on a little paper why you are happy. fold the paper and put it in the jar, and see how many little presents life gave you. Do it each year"

I just opened this jar of 200 little happy notes waiting for me.
