hello my unseen audience! Finally I have some time to sit down and write a blog post, rather than just being lazy and simply posting pictures.
Humans are creatures of habit. we repeat the same routines and so often we don’t really realize that we have so many little habits. This past week I challenged myself to let go of three things. It was at some times annoying and constraining; and other times it was liberating and eye opening. I’ll just go through them one by one:
challenge to not spend any time on hair or make up
This challenge was inspired by 1 Peter 3:3-4 where it says that "Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
I think this one was the easiest challenge because I didn’t wear make up for the majority of my life and I don’t have much time to style my hair. It did make me slightly self conscious when I was in close proximity with someone else just for the simple fact that I did not put any effort to present my face or hair. It was got me thinking of what beauty actually is in God’s sight and how there is such a high standard of beauty in the world.
I looked up the Greek for “gentle” and “quiet”. I found that gentle means someone who is meek and seeks the strength of the Lord; and “quiet” means someone who is tranquil and at peace. I want to strive to be a beautiful woman of God who is at peace with every situation.
challenge not to wear a watch
This was slightly harder because I love having a schedule and sticking to the time I set for each activity. There were so many times I glanced at my wrist to check the time and found myself looking at my watch tan (lol). I’ve recently been getting irritated when I’m spending time with someone or in an event and it goes longer than I predicted.. Yes we should have good time management but I have been learning that time is not my own and it is a gift that I ought to enjoy instead of trying to make every moment efficient.
challenge not to listen to my iPod while walking to class
It was really refreshing not spend five minutes looking for my earphones before leaving haha.. I usually listen to my iPod from the moment I leave my dorm to the moment I step in the classroom. But because there was no music playing my ears, I spent a lot of time in my thoughts reflecting on my day or an event that happened. It was also nice to listen to the noise around me of conversations and an occasional birds chirping in the air.
I have to get to class, but I will write again soon
side note: I have almost reached 2000 views on this blog.. That s not a lot and I know half of them are probably mine, but I wonder who on earth is reading this blog.
bye bye until next time ^
This was really good (: thanks Sheena !
