My friend Michelle and I went backpacking to the Havasupai Reservation and visited some waterfalls in the area. It has been something that we have been training for and I'm excited to share with you what we did!
Wednesday (03.21.18)
We headed out early morning from my house to Vegas, where we went to a Panera so that I could finish my EMI internship application. We also stopped by an REI store and target to pick up some last minutes items that we needed. For lunch, we got some Bauchi Burger (which I surprisingly ate most of). I have a picture of a half eaten burger, but it was so delicious so I will share it with you:
We traveled along route 66, which was a beautiful road through the country - Michelle kept exclaiming that it was like we were in Cars Land. In the last 60 mile stretch, we encountered a few cows crossing the road, which freaked out the first times. The baby cows were cute tho. We arrived at the beginning of the trail near sundown, ate, waited to digest (which felt like forever), and went to bed in the subie.
Thursday (03.22.18)
We woke up to this beautiful sight and started headed down the canyon:
At the 8 mile mark, we came to the tourist center / Native American village. Here we registered and received our wristbands and such. It was kind of disappointing because no one checked our wristbands, although I suppose we would never come without the permit.
A little past the tourist center was fifty foot falls and Navajo falls! It was kind of exciting finding fifty foot falls because the path is hidden (although I didn't really know that, so I kind of stumbled into finding these falls).
We stopped for lunch briefly and headed forth to Havasu Falls! Because of our excitement, it felt like forever getting from Navajo to Havasu. At what seemed yet another typical curve, we turned and saw this beautiful sight:
We spent a good time just admiring the waterfalls and taking basic photos ^^
We then proceeded to our campsite to set up and chill. We brought a hammock, which was actually really comfy.

We knew that we wouldn't have a lot of energy, so we were quiet most of the way of the trail. It was a beautiful hike in - it was pretty overcast and the canyon was a beautiful red tone. On the way, we came across several packs of horses. The Indian Reservation obtains their supplies via mules and horses, so they were making their morning trek up. At around the 6 mile mark, we noticed more bright green-leaved trees, which stood in such contrast to the brown-red canyon and the dull green bushes we had been seeing.

I spent a portion of that time at a stream that was adjacent of our campsite, reflecting on the past quarter, and resting in God's presence. It was a really refreshing time and I might write more about it at another time. We were pretty tired and we know that there was a full day the next day, so we went to sleep fairly quickly.
I think I'm going to stop here for now, but I'll continue on another post!
bye bye until next time ^
